Journal #3 - David

1) Is it ethical to experiment with animals? Why or why not? I believe that it is unethical to experiment with animals because often in experiments, we are harming the animal or putting its life at risk by leaving it to an unknown outcome. Some argue that experimenting with animals are for the greater good of mankind, to come up with cures to extend the life line of humanity. We put ourselves in higher standing than other organisms when we are no better than they are. Also the fact that an animal cannot refuse to be tested on seems more unethical. However, as much as I believe that animal testing is unethical, I also have a biased standing as a human being. And like all other animals, we humans put our survival above everything else.
2) Can psychology or psychological research be dangerous?
Yes, because through the use of psychology we could develop a way to use more than only 10 percent of our brains. With only 10 percent of our brains, humanity has managed to develop new and more creative ways of killing and self-destruction by the day, cause problems and find a solution only to cause more problems. To think of all we have "accomplished" within a few millenia use of ten percent of our brain, it would be a nightmare to try and imagine what we would do with 50 or even 100 percent of it.
